This summer’s Southwest Florida press has been buzzing with talk of orchestras ‘dying’ in and dire predictions about the fate of classical music. Below are links to two recent Naples Daily News articles covering the topic.

We just don't buy it.

So, we’ve asked Hootoven, the Classical Music Owl, to conduct an investigation into whether classical music is still alive and well.

He’s promised to leave no note unturned, to follow every lead-in, and to keep his eyes on the score. So please, don’t rest—whole or half—until you’ve answered our survey. Your input will help Hootoven orchestrate the "finale" truth about the state of classical music in SW Florida!

The Naples Daily News recently quoted the president of the now shuttered SW Florida Symphony as saying that "Nationally, only about 5½ percent of the population across America gives a hoot about classical music."
