The Naples Community Orchestra is expanding its roster of both volunteer and professional musicians.

We perform major orchestral repertoire in an environment that values preparation, collaboration, and artistic excellence.  Our musicians share one goal: creating exceptional performances together.

Volunteer Musicians

​We are seeking accomplished volunteer musicians who are committed to making music at a high artistic level.  Ideal candidates are active performers with orchestral experience who enjoy careful preparation, collaborative rehearsals, and the challenge of great orchestral repertoire. We also welcome retired professional musicians and those who have stepped away from performing as a career but wish to continue making exceptional music with like-minded colleagues.

Examples of the musicians we hope to attract include:

  • Retired professional orchestra musicians

  • Active freelance orchestral musicians who wish to volunteer their talents

  • Current and retired music educators

  • University and college music faculty

  • Private music teachers and studio instructors

  • Former conservatory or university music performance majors

  • Musicians who once pursued performing professionally before choosing another career

  • Military band veterans and retired military musicians

  • Seasonal residents ("snowbirds") who perform with orchestras elsewhere during the year

  • Chamber musicians with significant orchestral experience

  • Church musicians with strong orchestral backgrounds

  • Advanced amateur musicians with substantial orchestral performance experience

  • Musicians returning to orchestral performance after a career outside of music

  • Orchestra musicians relocating to Southwest Florida

  • Experienced players who simply want to continue making great music in a serious orchestral setting

Professional Musicians

Our paid musicians are selected from among the region's strongest professional performers—musicians whose primary career is performing. Many perform regularly with professional orchestras or maintain active freelance careers, bringing the experience that comes from rehearsing and performing orchestral repertoire on a daily basis. These musicians provide artistic leadership within each section, mentor less experienced colleagues through example, and help ensure the orchestra performs at the highest possible level.

Examples of the professional musicians we seek include:

  • Full-time orchestra musicians

  • Per-service orchestra musicians performing regularly and/or sub with professional ensembles

  • Professional freelance orchestral musicians

  • Principal and assistant principal players

  • Professional section musicians

  • Musicians with extensive orchestral performance experience

  • Conservatory-trained musicians pursuing professional performing careers

  • Professional chamber musicians with significant orchestral experience

  • Professional musicians relocating to or residing seasonally in Southwest Florida

  • Professional musicians seeking meaningful orchestral opportunities between engagements

Request an audition today!

Candidates who would like to be considered for the 2027 Season should prepare 2 solo selections of your choosing, each 2-3 minutes in length.  One selection should be fast that demonstrates your technical skills and instrument proficiency, and the other selection should be slow and lyrical.  If you have 1 piece that contains both tempos, one 3-5 minute selection will be adequate.

Audition Process

January - April

During the season, we hold in-person auditions, and our rehearsal schedule is listed here for your convenience. We will arrange an audition time that works for both you and our rehearsal schedule. For the most part, our rehearsals take place at Artis-Naples.

Off Season

We invite you to submit video audition outside of our. If your audition meets our qualifications, we will schedule a virtual meeting via Zoom to get to know you and answer any questions you may have. We look forward hearing from you!
