Romantic Spirits: Fate, Fear & Transcendence explores the emotional extremes of the Romantic era. From Weber’s darkly supernatural overture and Schubert’s brooding “Tragic” Symphony to the radiant optimism of Brahms’s Second Symphony, this concert traces a powerful arc from shadow into light.

Carl Maria von Weber – Der Freischütz Overture, Op. 77

The overture to Der Freischütz sets the stage for Weber’s groundbreaking Romantic opera, blending eerie atmosphere with moments of heroic brilliance. Its vivid contrasts capture a world where fate and fear collide.

Franz Schubert: Symphony No. 4 in C minor, “Tragic,”  D. 417

Written when Schubert was just nineteen, the Fourth Symphony reveals a composer who is pushing toward darker emotional territory. Stormy energy, lyrical contrast, and dramatic tension define this compelling early work.

Johannes Brahms: Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 73

Often described as Brahms’ most pastoral symphony, this work balances rich orchestral textures with flowing melodies and an undercurrent of quiet strength. Its glowing conclusion brings the concert’s emotional journey to a triumphant close.
