A sweeping musical journey through Rome—its passion, poetry, and power. From Puccini’s youthful lyricism and Chopin’s romantic elegance to the monumental grandeur of Respighi’s Pines of Rome, this concert evokes love remembered, history imagined, and empire ascending.
Rome has inspired composers for centuries, and Eternal Rome: Love, Memory & Empire brings that inspiration vividly to life. Puccini’s radiant Capriccio sinfonico opens the program with youthful warmth and operatic flair, followed by one of Chopin’s beloved piano concertos—music of intimacy, longing, and lyrical beauty.
After intermission, Respighi’s towering symphonic poem Pines of Rome unfolds without pause, tracing the Eternal City from playful gardens to ancient catacombs and, finally, to the thunderous march of a Roman legion along the Appian Way. Together, these works create a powerful portrait of Rome as both a place and an idea—timeless, emotional, and monumental.
